Comcast-Spectacor Wants To Build Smaller Arena To Replace Spectrum

In Philadelphia, Joseph DiStefano reports Comcast-Spectacor "wants to build a 10,000- to 12,000-seat arena to replace the Spectrum as a concert and minor-league pro sports venue." However, Comcast-Spectacor President & COO Peter Luukko said, "It's so preliminary it's unbelievable. We're closing the Spectrum in a year. We absolutely have to look around. We've had some confidential conversations in Camden County [New Jersey]." Comcast-Spectacor also has "talked to promoters of sites" in Atlantic City and Allentown, Pennsylvania (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 9/5).

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: In Seattle, Bud Withers reported fans attending  Washington State's home game against Cal Saturday at Martin Stadium "will see improvements, both utilitarian and cosmetic." Phases one and two of the stadium's renovation, "worth $27[M], are virtually complete," and include an "addition of restrooms on three sides of the stadium, as well as a brick facade, greater concourse space and a $2.5[M] scoreboard." If WSU officials' "optimism is well-placed, they'll have something grander to show off in two years." Phase three includes "construction of luxury suites, loge boxes and club seats above the north (student-side) section, adding some 2,200 seats." The "design work is close to being finalized for Phase 3" (SEATTLE TIMES, 9/4).

NOTES: Pennsylvania-based construction company T.N Ward will build a new $115M multi-use stadium and entertainment complex in Chester, Pennsylvania, for Keystone Sports & Entertainment, owners of the MLS Philadelphia franchise (T.N. Ward)....NFL Panthers Stadium LLC President Jon Richardson said that Bank of America Stadium "may host a concert or two during the next year." Richardson: "I'm feeling good about one or two (acts) we're talking about right now." Richardson declined to name potential acts (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/1).
