Economou Leaving Bobcats
After Two Years |
The Bobcats are once again undergoing a management restructuring with the departure of Exec VP & CMO
GREG ECONOMOU. Economou leaves the franchise immediately and will not be replaced. Bobcats GM
ROD HIGGINS and team Chief Administrative Officer
JARED BARTIE will now report directly to team President & COO
FRED WHITFIELD. “We have done an in-depth study to operate more efficiently and take advantage of economies of scale,” Whitfield said. “Greg’s departure was a mutual and amicable decision.” Economou joined the Bobcats in September '06. He also served as NBA Senior VP/Marketing & Communications from April-September '06. “I have appreciated the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally during my tenure with the Bobcats,” Economou said in a prepared statement. “I’m proud to be a part of this team’s early history, and I know the pieces are in place for this franchise to be successful for many years to come" (
John Lombardo, SportsBusiness Journal). Whitfield said that "there was no specific reason or incident that led to Economou's departure." Whitfield: "It was sort of a meeting of the minds on both parties" (
CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/3).
