Prior To Start Of Sylvania 300 In New Hampshire 
U.S. Republican Presidential candidate JOHN MCCAIN and his wife, CINDY, yesterday appeared at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and they "stopped in at the drivers' meeting just before the race and thanked them for supporting men and women in the military." McCain also met SMI Chair & CEO BRUTON SMITH and Petty Enterprises Chair Emeritus RICHARD PETTY, who gave McCain a tour "around the garage and pits." McCain was joined by Red Sox P CURT SCHILLING and his wife, SHONDA, and the group also talked with Joe Gibbs Racing Owner JOE GIBBS (CONCORD MONITOR, 9/15). Meanwhile, Capitals Owner TED LEONSIS has donated the maximum $2,300 to both McCain and Democratic Presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA. Leonsis said of donating to both parties, "The race is a dead heat. I just felt it was in our best interest from a company standpoint to support both. We have Republicans who are fans. We have Democrats who are fans." Leonsis added, "I'd also like the new president to come to some games" (WASHINGTON POST, 9/15).
