Camping World Nears Deal To Sponsor NASCAR's Truck Series
Published September 26, 2008
NASCAR "is close to a multiyear agreement with Camping World to sponsor its Truck series beginning next season," according to sources cited by Jim Utter of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. Craftsman earlier this year said that it would not renew its title sponsorship of the series, and NASCAR VP/Racing Operations Steve O'Donnell said that the selection process for a replacement "remained ongoing, but that Camping World was 'one of a few' companies still under serious consideration." Financial terms of the deal were not known, but Camping World's move "may come with an extra cost," as sources indicated that the deal "could curtail some of its other NASCAR involvement." Sources noted that the "most likely target of cutbacks would be its current sponsorship" of Kevin Harvick Inc.'s truck series entry driven by '07 series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. Camping World also sponsors two regional NASCAR touring series, the Camping World Series East and West, and has "provided sponsorship for several races this season," including Sunday's Sprint Cup Series Camping World RV 400 at Kansas Speedway (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/26).
