Published August 28, 2008
Over the past 24 hours, former Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti's resignation from the newspaper remained the most popular topic among bloggers, the majority of whom are happy to see him go. Chargers LB Shawne Merriman's decision to forego surgery on his injured knee and play this season was also a popular topic, while the start of college football season brought about excitement in the blogosphere. Rounding out the top five were discussion of accusations that Jaguars WR Dennis Northcutt had his cousin assault a woman who was allegedly pregnant by Northcutt and Yankee Stadium security enforcing a no moving during the singing of "God Bless America" policy by removing a fan from the stadium when he attempted to go to the restroom during the song.
