Olympic Blog Hound: Redeem Team's Win & Travels Impress Bloggers
Published August 20, 2008
Over the past 24 hours, men's basketball remained the most popular Olympic topic, with discussion centering on the U.S.' 116-85 victory over Australia this morning as well as appearances by U.S. players at other events. U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps took the second spot, with conversation now shifting from his swimming perfomances to his SI cover photo, rumors about various women that may be interested in him, and his endorsements for Kellogg's cereal. Bloggers reacted with amusement to comments from Int'l Table Tennis Federation VP Claude Bergeret suggesting that female players should dress more in skirts and shirts that show their curves to attract interest to the sport. Discussion of NBC's coverage re-entered the top five with complaints about both the time delays and MSNBC's "Olympic Update" co-hosts Tiki Barber and Jenna Wolfe. Rounding out the top five topics was U.S. gymnast Alicia Sacramone being the second-most searched Olympic athlete behind Phelps. Visit www.sportsmediachallenge.com for more info or see chart below.
