Olympic Blog Hound: Redeem Team's Domination Top Blog Subject
Published August 19, 2008
Over the past 24 hours, the U.S. men's basketball team took over the top spot as the most discussed Olympic topic, spurred on by their dominating win yesterday over Germany. Women's gymnastics continued to be a popular topic, mainly due to displeasure with the tiebreaking procedure that resulted in U.S. gymnast Nastia Liukin winning the Silver Medal in the uneven bars final. Now that his quest for 8 Gold Medals is complete, Michael Phelps was not as highly discussed, although he still took the third spot. Rounding out the top five were the medal count, specifically the "race" between the U.S. and China, and disapproval of IOC and BOCOG officials cancelling their joint press conference with foreign and local media for the second day in a row in the wake of increasingly tense briefings between the officials and foreign reporters.
