Olympic Blog Hound: Phelps' Eight-For-Eight Effort The No. 1 Topic
Published August 18, 2008
Over the weekend, U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps' historic eight Gold Medal haul was the most popular topic. Women's gymnastics was the next popular topic, with discussions on the performances of U.S. gymnasts Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson, the excitable NBC analyst Bela Karolyi, and the controversy over the age of some of China's women's gymnasts. Jamaica sprinter Usain Bolt's world-record Gold Medal win in the men's 100m was also popular, with many wondering how much faster he may be able to run since he began celebrating before crossing the finish line and apparently ran with one shoe untied. Men's basketball continued to be a popular topic. The ad featuring Spain's basketball team pulling at the corners of their eyes rounded out the top five, with many posting a picture from April showing Spanish tennis players and coaches making the same "slant-eye" gesture before a Federation Cup match against China.
