Chiefs Claim Renovation Will Not Affect Arrowhead Visitors

Arrowhead Renovations Include Increasing Concourse Space And Adding Lounge Areas

Chiefs officials yesterday said that once fans get inside Arrowhead Stadium, which currently is undergoing a $375M makeover, they will "see little effect from major renovation," according to Kevin Murphy of the K.C. STAR. Team officials yesterday gave a tour of the Arrowhead Stadium construction, and said that none of the "fan-friendly changes will be done this fall, but many will start showing up in 2009 and wrap up in time for the 2010 season." Chiefs President & GM Carl Peterson said that ticket prices "will not go up strictly because of the renovation costs, except for fans who sit in the new club level." Peterson noted that the Chiefs are "exploring selling naming rights to the new Arrowhead, which would bring in revenue," but he said that Arrowhead "would still be incorporated in any new name." The work includes a "doubling of concourse space, 50[%] more concession stands, 80[%] more restrooms, new video boards and glitzy new suite, club and lounge areas." The renovation also includes a HOF to "pay tribute to past players, coaches and others with the Chiefs, an expanded team store and a new entrance plaza that features a statue" of late Chiefs Owner Lamar Hunt. The capacity of the stadium "will drop by about 2,500 seats to about 77,000 permanently this fall," while the "number of suites and private boxes will increase" (K.C. STAR, 7/22).
