Never Enough: Beckham Continues To Keep Galaxy A Hot Ticket
Published July 18, 2008
Galaxy MF David Beckham has five goals and seven assists through 16 games this year, and the "only thing louder than the cheers for [Beckham's] play on the field is the ringing of the cash register off of it," according to Kristian Dyer of ESPN SOCCERNET. The Galaxy through 10 home matches this season are averaging 25,513 fans per game at The Home Depot Center, which leads the league by "nearly 5,000 a game." Meanwhile, the club has played before an average of 27,094 fans for six road games. The Red Bulls already have sold 42,000 seats for Saturday's game against the Galaxy at Giants Stadium, "almost triple the average of their home gate to date." There are nearly 1,000 seats to the game available on StubHub, a "record number for the Red Bulls this season." Due to the interest in the game, the NJSEA is "prepared to once again staff the game like a NFL event." Dyer notes sales of Beckham replica jerseys "remain strong" -- it remains the league's top seller, and the Galaxy indicated that the total number sold "recently topped 500,000" (ESPNSOCCERNET.com, 7/17).
