  • A-B Claims Sports Spending Will Not Be Cut

In the midst of InBev's $52B takeover of Anheuser-Busch, the sports industry holds its collective breath as the future of the marketing giant hangs in the balance. InBev has said it has no plans to reduce U.S. advertising, and A-B asserts it will continue spending on sports sponsorships as it has in the past. Still, observers wonder whether the Belgian company will trim an A-B budget. But recent developments seem to indicate A-B is carrying on -- in the words of Tony Ponturo -- "business as usual." The brewer reportedly has finalized an extension of its NBA sponsorship and has a deal in the works for the new Yankee Stadium, which would give A-B a sweep of the rights to new sports venues in and around the country's No. 1 market. And then there is the news that A-B is renewing its USOC sponsorship through 2012, this time coming at a far reduced cost.
