NEWEST SANDWICH ARTIST: Subway has agreed to a one-race deal to sponsor Vision Racing No. 22 IndyCar series entry in the July 26 inaugural IndyCar Series Rexall Edmonton Indy. Paul Tracy will drive the car (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 7/16). The CP's Nick Patch reported the deal comes after "weeks of negotiation[s]" between Tracy, Walker Racing, Subway and associate sponsor Rexall (CP, 7/15). Tracy: "We're hoping Subway, after this experience, will decide to look at us for an entire season next year. Subway has been with Tony Stewart in NASCAR. They know the benefits. They know what kind of exposure is out there. We just want to come to Edmonton and give them the same kind of exposure for a lot of less" (EDMONTON SUN, 7/16).
TAILGATE NATION: Auto Club Speedway is offering a $99 ticket package for the August 31 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pepsi 500. Fans will receive a tour of the Rose Bowl, a reserved lower-grandstand seat for the race, VIP track access with "a chance to meet veteran driver Sterling Marlin," and a ticket to the Tennessee-UCLA football game at the Rose Bowl on Labor Day (ESPN.com, 7/15).
SPONSOR NOTES: Hitachi Power Tools will sponsor Yates Racing's No. 28 Sprint Cup Ford driven by Travis Kvapil for six races this season, beginning with the July 27 Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. This will mark Hitachi's first primary sponsorship at the Cup level (SCENEDAILY.com, 7/16)....With the U.S. Navy leaving JR Motorsports next season as sponsor of the team's No. 88 Nationwide Series entry, ESPN's Shannon Spake reported the team has "not signed anyone, but they are confidant that next year they will continue with the two car organization.” Spake said “don’t be surprised if it’s two sponsors rather than just one” on the No. 88 car next year. The Navy has decided to leave NASCAR altogether ("NASCAR Now," ESPN2, 7/16).
