AFL Looking For Interested Cities To Host '09 ArenaBowl
Published July 16, 2008
The AFL has "opened the window with 'requests for proposals' and now is waiting to hear from interested locations" that want to host the '09 ArenaBowl, according to Ed Barkowitz of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. AFL Commissioner David Baker yesterday said that a decision "has not been made yet on which city will host" next year's event. Baker added that reps from Philadelphia, K.C., Orlando, Chicago and Hawaii "have shown interest in hosting the championship game." Baker: "We have had some interest from some cities that don't have Arena Football teams, specifically Hawaii and maybe even a game abroad for the ArenaBowl. We will work our way through that." Meanwhile, Barkowitz notes with the "demolition of the Wachovia Spectrum slated for the middle of next season, the Soul could use another option," which could include the "possibility of playing an outdoor game, possibly at Lincoln Financial Field or Citizens Bank Park" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 7/16).
