Baseball Names: Yankees' Lonn Trost Profiled By Star-Ledger

The Newark STAR-LEDGER’s Kevin Manahan profiled Yankees COO Lonn Trost, and wrote Trost is the “steward of the new Yankee Stadium” scheduled to open next season. Trost is a “workaholic whose last vacation was in 1996.” He “delegates (almost) nothing, takes responsibility for (almost) everything, and answers the phone at 2 a.m.” Trost also “understands the financial, emotional and spiritual burdens of rebuilding Yankee Stadium.” Trost: “I have a responsibility to the owner and the fans. People say it’s my baby. But it’s not my stadium. It’s everybody’s.” Yankees President Randy Levine said Trost is “very smart. A tireless worker. Devotes a lot of his life to the Yankees” (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 7/13).

Boras Meets With Rodriguez (r) And
Wife Over Weekend In Toronto

Marriage Counseling: A source said that agent Scott Boras met with Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez and Rodriguez’ wife Cynthia Saturday in Toronto. It is “unclear if Boras is trying to help the couple hash out a quick divorce settlement or to get them to tone down the public discourse between them.” But the source said, “Boras has inserted himself into the equation” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/14).

Invitation Rescinded: Former Yankees C Jim Leyritz indicated that the Yankees have “disinvited him from participating in All-Star, Old Timers Day and Yankee Stadium closing festivities, due to his pending trial on charges of driving under the influence and manslaughter.” Leyritz said, “In light of the circumstances going on, I understand their reason. But at the same time, yes, I am disappointed somewhat in not being able to be a part of it, because of the history that I have there” (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 7/14).

NOTES: Ron Shelton, who directed “Bull Durham,” is developing a film called, "Our Lady of the Ballpark," about life in the Mexican leagues. He also is working on a movie for HBO based on the book “Game of Shadows,” about BARRY BONDS, BALCO and Steroids (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 7/12)….Tigers manager JIM LEYLAND said that he and his wife Katie “will attend a baseball-related dinner at the White House on Wednesday hosted by President George W. Bush” (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 7/14). Mets P BILLY WAGNER also has been invited to the dinner (, 7/12).
