Sunoco, Red Cross To Title Sponsor August NASCAR Race At Pocono
Published July 2, 2008
The August 3 Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway will be known as the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500, the first time since ’96 the race “will have a name besides Pocono and Pennsylvania in the title,” according to Bill Fleischman of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. The last Cup series race at Pocono with a title sponsor was the UAW-GM Teamwork 500, which was last contested at the track in ’96. Pocono Raceway President Brandon Igdalsky said that the track “will donate 10[%] of revenue from online ticket purchases to the Red Cross.” Igdalsky also said that fans buying the first 1,500 grandstand reserve tickets using a Red Cross promotional code on PoconoRaceway.com "will receive free prerace pit/paddock passes.” Sunoco will also offer "promotional and marketing support for the race” (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 7/2). The sponsorship is part of the Red Cross' marketing campaign around NASCAR (THE DAILY).
