T'Wolves Trading Mayo
Part Of NBA Draft FalloutThe '08 NBA Draft is in the books and there are several angles drawing headlines. Early reviews of ESPN’s five-hour coverage of the draft are not too kind -- the Portland OREGONIAN’s Ryan White calls the main set, which was anchored by Stuart Scott, “conflict-averse.” Major sponsorship deals appear slow to trickle in for the draft class, as O.J. Mayo’s Nike deal and Danilo Gallinari’s signature Reebok shoe top news from the footwear industry, which just means there is more for the agents of the 60 draft picks to do for their new clients. The usual trading frenzy that accompanies the event sees one columnist saying the T’Wolves “blew it” by sending Mayo to Memphis. Meanwhile, the Bucks could feel off-the-court repercussions from trading last year’s first-round pick Yi Jianlian to the Nets. While Bucks execs deny the relationship between the club and China businesses will be severely damaged, one wonders how long China-based Peak apparel will remain a team sponsor.
