  • ABC Earns 12.8 Overnight For Series-Clincher

The NBA closes the books on its 62nd season last night in Boston as the Celtics clinch their 17th NBA Championship. There is plenty to do over the offseason, but the league goes into its break assured that it delivered for its media partners during the postseason. While some claim the numbers for the marquee Celtics-Lakers match-up are lower than expected, it is hard to argue when NBA programming consistently wins the night for ABC. Last night’s finale earns a 12.8 overnight rating, up nearly 12% over the comparable series-clinching '06 Heat-Mavericks Game Six. The 12.8 also marks the highest NBA overnight in three years. In this day and age, those are very good numbers, and they come on the heels of the recent spate of strong television ratings for top sports programming.
