  • Sale Of Cubs, Wrigley Field In The Headlines

One of the most-watched stories in sports business is heating up -- the sale of the Cubs. A move to have the state buy and renovate Wrigley Field is dealt a likely fatal blow yesterday when the Tribune Co. and the state could not agree to terms of a deal. Cubs Chair Crane Kenney say they have “more attractive alternatives,” which include selling the team and the ballpark in a private transaction, either separately or as a package. Meanwhile, Mark Cuban remains interested in the Cubs, and says that Wrigley has to be part of any deal he makes. Cuban realizes he’s got some convincing to do: "My job is to convince everybody involved that not only is it a good financial move to sell to [Mark] Cuban but it's also, you know, a good partnership move that I can add value beyond just my checkbook."
