Orioles Adding "Baltimore" To Jerseys As Part Of Renewed Effort
Published June 3, 2008
While the Orioles have "made positive steps in the clubhouse and in the standings, the organization also appears to have turned an important corner away from the field," according to Rick Maese of the Baltimore SUN. The Orioles have "reportedly notified [MLB] that they're finally willing" to place "Baltimore" on the team's jerseys, and "nothing this team has done could underscore its efforts and punctuate transformation more than finally addressing this continuing uniform mess." While team officials are "careful not to confirm or deny anything," sources indicated that the uniform decision "was spurred from way up top." The Orioles also are televising select games in HD, ushers at Camden Yards "haven't been cracking their whips quite so loudly" and the team's "promotional and community efforts have been tough to miss." Maese wrote the Orioles are a "team earnestly trying to return to its glory days," with a manager in Dave Trembley who "embraces fundamentals and the principles of the Oriole Way, and an organization that finally recognizes that it needs the community as much as the community needs the team" (Baltimore SUN, 6/1).
