In a major shake up of the collegiate power ranks, Kevin White is introduced as the new AD at Duke on Saturday. White says he will immediately look to enhance the university’s athletics experience for varsity, intramural and casual athletes, while also planning to build new facilities and renovate others. The sudden move surprises many observers, and White would only say the opportunity "just popped up at the right place and right time.” Now, the focus is on a replacement in South Bend, and among the names floated are Steve Orsini, Rick Chryst, Mike Bobinski, Gene Smith, Bubba Cunningham, Bernard Muir and several internal candidates. Meanwhile, down in South Florida, Kirby Hocutt is beginning his first week as AD at Miami, replacing long-time AD Paul Dee. At 36, Hocutt is the "youngest athletic director in the ACC and one of the youngest in all of Division I."
