Leiweke Among Sports Business Award Winners The best and brightest of the sports business industry were honored Thursday night in N.Y. at the inaugural Sports Business Awards, presented by SportsBusiness Daily and SportsBusiness Journal. A standing-room-only crowd of more than 500 people packed the Mandarin Oriental ballroom, where 11 awards in total were handed out. Among the big winners of the night were AEG President & CEO Tim Leiweke winning the coveted Sports Exec of the Year award. While describing the award as a “great tribute” for AEG, Leiweke said the company believes “our best days are still ahead of us.” Other highlights from the ceremony include MLS Commissioner Don Garber calling the property’s win as Pro League of the Year a “great statement” for the fans, sponsors and owners who “believe in a sport.” Also, Octagon was named Agency of the Year; Rick Dudley said the honor “really puts it over the top” as to whether the company’s vision is successful.
