  •  Hicks' Glorypark Development On Hold

In the latest casualty of the global credit crunch, Tom Hicks’ Glorypark development in Arlington is being delayed indefinitely for a lack of financing and anchor tenants. Hicks asserts he remains committed to the entertainment district, which is to be built next to Rangers Ballpark and near the new Cowboys stadium. The delay marks the third hiatus for Glorypark, raising questions about how much of the development will be completed in time for Super Bowl XLV in 2011. However, Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck remains confident Hicks “will make this project work” despite the numerous setbacks. Meanwhile, while ambitious mixed-use developments in conjunction with sports facilities appear to be on the rise, the growing pains of Glorypark, the Ballpark Village in St. Louis and the Meadowlands’ Xanadu, among others, indicate the current economic climate remains unfriendly to large-scale development.
