49ers Discuss Possibility Of Stadium In S.F. Suburb Brisbane
Published May 14, 2008
Brisbane, California, city leaders said that the 49ers "recently approached them about adding a stadium to a development considered on an old waterfront landfill known as the Baylands," according to Theriault & Swift of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. 49ers VP/Communications Lisa Lang yesterday said that a stadium in Brisbane "remains a long shot, ... more insurance policy, at this point, than anything else." Lang: "It's about providing more options." Meanwhile, the city of S.F. on June 3 will vote on a stadium redevelopment project at Hunters Point, and Santa Clara, considered the "front-runner" for a 49ers stadium, "hopes to have a financing plan with the team by July" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 5/14). In S.F., David Smith reports Brisbane and the team within the last three weeks have "discussed whether a stadium should be included in a study on the environmental impact of a Universal Paragon Corp. proposal to develop the site" (S.F. EXAMINER, 5/14).
