  • Deck The Halls

The ambitious $100M Sports Museum of America officially opens its doors today in N.Y., seeking to serve as the preeminent facility for sports history by providing never-before-seen artifacts and interactive displays under one roof. The 45,000-square-foot museum already serves as the new home of the Heisman Trophy and also boasts the Billie Jean King Int'l Women's Sports Center. Another aspect that sets SmA apart from its competition: It’s a for-profit enterprise, and the hefty cost of admission -- ranging from $20-27 -- reflects that. But with its location in a tourist hotbed, Founder Philip Schwalb expects around 1 million visitors to pass through the museum’s doors in its first year. SmA also is shopping for sponsorships, already counting American Airlines and Cisco as its principal sponsors.
