  • Delay Of Game

Wait until 2014 -- at the earliest. That is the message coming out of the BCS meetings that concluded yesterday in South Florida concerning any significant changes to the way college football crowns its champion. While a presentation for the plus-one format was made yesterday by influential SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, there was such little interest in changing the current format that a formal vote was not even taken. Most observers now do not see any dramatic changes until the Rose Bowl’s deal with ABC/ESPN expires after 2013. Meanwhile, the NCAA does not buy into the conventional wisdom that there are too many bowl games. Two new bowls are approved for the ’08 season -- the Congressional Bowl in DC and the St. Petersburg Bowl -- bumping the number of postseason games to 34. Notably, the St. Pete game will be the sixth bowl game owned by ESPN Regional.
