Larry Brown Resigns As 76ers Exec VP To Pursue Coaching
Published April 25, 2008
76ers Exec VP Larry Brown Thursday resigned from his position and is "applying a full-court press in his bid to become a head coach," according to Marc Narducci of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Brown's agent Joe Glass acknowledged that Brown "would return to coaching." Glass: "There are a lot of options. It's just a matter of sorting them out." Glass added Brown has both NBA and college options. Narducci notes some "wondered why Brown would resign now if he didn't have a job," as his contract with the team ran through June 30. But an NBA source noted that "anyone who wanted to interview Brown for a job would have needed the Sixers' permission had he stayed." 76ers President & GM Ed Stefanski Thursday, when asked if Brown's position would be filled, said, "I haven't thought about it" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 4/25). Also in Philadelphia, Phil Jasner writes Brown's Exec VP role was "just a title." Jasner: "In his heart and soul, he remained a coach. He just didn't have a coaching job" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 4/25).
