Mets To Unveil Citi Field's Jackie Robinson Rotunda Tuesday
Published April 11, 2008
The Mets on Tuesday afternoon will unveil the design, images and text for the Jackie Robinson Rotunda at the forthcoming Citi Field, forming a key part of MLB's celebration this year of the HOFer who broke the sport's color barrier. The event will be joined by MLB's already announced intent to allow players to wear Robinson's retired No. 42 on the day, as well as in-park commemorations slated for the 15 MLB games scheduled that day and evening.
DELAY IN MANHATTAN TOWER: Meanwhile, several sources said MLB and Vornado Realty Trust will likely not use the Jackie Robinson Day to formally announce plans to build a modern 21-story office tower in upper Manhattan that is set to be the home of the forthcoming MLB Network. The Harlem Park development project itself is not in danger of collapsing, the sources said. But many still-unresolved complexities at this point appear to have made Tuesday too ambitious a target for trumpeting the effort. MLB officials had hoped to use the Jackie Robinson Day as a logical tie-in to launch the project in the historic Harlem neighborhood.
