    As first reported by ESPN.com, Ravens K Matt Stover has e-mailed a plan to fellow player reps that would replace NFLPA Exec Dir Gene Upshaw. There are few players publicly stating their desire for a leadership change, and Upshaw said that he is staying on through the next labor negotiations. Meanwhile, in a special report filed exclusively to THE DAILY, Liz Mullen cites sources who state a coup attempt against Upshaw failed to get off the ground at the NFLPA’s meetings last month. In addition, rumors of a deteriorating relationship between Upshaw and outgoing NFLPA President Troy Vincent -- frequently cited as Upshaw’s likely successor -- have been circulating since those meetings in Maui. Now the NFLPA has promoted longtime union employee Clark Gaines as Assistant Exec Dir, a job Vincent reportedly had been expecting.
