Moment Of Clarity: IRL Invests $10M In In-Car HD Cams
Published March 28, 2008
The IRL this offseason invested $10M to make all race broadcasts available in HD, according to Steve Ballard of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. A minimum of six cars in each race will be "carrying onboard HD cameras with a 360-degree panning capability." Also, IRL has partnered with MediaZone to provided a "live online video production available on personal computers" at indycarracecontrol.com. For an annual fee of $39.99, users can go to the Web site for "in-car camera views, onboard telemetry and live timing and scoring" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 3/28).
WEB TRAFFIC: IndyCar.com, the official Web site of the IndyCar Series, is introducing a new look and expanded features. A daily TV-style show titled "Up to Speed" will review and preview events, provide showcases on players and personalities in each series and go behind the scenes at various race stops. The video and audio files from IMS Productions and IMS Radio Network, the IRL's in-house production units, also are featured on the site. Additionally, ESPN's Jack Arute and IMS Radio Network host Mike King will write weekly commentaries, and ESPN's Scott Goodyear will provide commentaries in May leading up to the Indianapolis 500 (IRL).
