In Detroit, Carlos Monarrez writes of the Buick Open offering PGA Tour golfer John Daly an exemption for this year’s tournament, “If you remember the Tiger-like crowds Daly and his pal Kid Rock attracted to the final round of last year’s tournament, Buick officials would be fools not to beg Daly to return to Warwick Hills in June.” Buick Golf Marketing Manager Larry Peck said of Daly, “He’s a great friend of the tournament, and he’s a huge fan draw. We found it a pretty easy decision to extend an invitation to him” (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 3/19).
