Newest Titleist Irons Target Broader Range Of Golf Market
Published March 18, 2008
Titleist's new AP1 and AP2 irons, which were shipped to retail outlets last Friday, have "fewer models, but the four they have strike a broader range of the market," according to Jerry Potter of USA TODAY. The clubs are "made from multiple materials with a lower center of gravity and a softer feel." The AP1 is a cast club made for mid-handicap players, while the AP2 is a "forged club for single-digit handicap players and touring pros." In recent years, amateur players have "shied away from Titleist irons because they think they're too difficult to hit." Cobra Golf and Titleist Clubs President Jeff Harmet: "We're still focused on the better player. We recognize some of our products have been only for the low-handicap and tour player." Potter reports Titleist, which "dominates the ball market," hopes that the irons will "improve its position in the $580[M] U.S. iron market." PGA Tour golfers Adam Scott and Steve Stricker are among the players using the AP2 model (USA TODAY, 3/18).
