AAFL In Talks With Prospective Investors, Delays Training Camp
Published March 10, 2008
The All American Football League (AAFL) has posted a statement on its Web site maintaining that the league "continues to progress toward its 2008 inaugural season.'' In the statement, CEO Marcus Katz indicated that “discussions continue with several prospective investors'' and "negotiations for broadcast coverage … continue to move forward.” However, the start of training camp has been delayed. The league is still hopeful of beginning its season April 12 (AAFL). Acting AAFL Commissioner Keenan Davis said that the league “is close to finalizing television and satellite radio deals.” AAFL Chair Cedric Dempsey said that NFL Network “is an option,” but added that the “bigger struggle now is finding investors to fund [$25-30M] to cover expenses for the entire inaugural season.” Davis, though, said he is “100 percent” certain the ’08 season will be played (BIRMINGHAM NEWS, 3/8).
