In Boston, Kevin Paul Dupont wrote the Bruins last week announced a "dramatic price reconfiguration" of tickets for the '08-09 season, but the "bumps aren't nearly as dramatic as the drops." Select center-ice seats are increasing $14 to $99, but some end-zone balcony seats are decreasing from $60 to $24. The loge seats in the lower-bowl end zones where the Bruins shoot for two of the three periods will remain at $73 per ticket, while tickets at the opposite end will drop to $65 (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/9).
COMMUNITY SERVICE: The Magic Friday shut down its offices, except for the team practice, and sent about 200 team employees to build a playground at a local apartment complex. The Magic paid for the construction and provided the labor. The project was in conjunction with DC-based KaBOOM. Magic COO Alex Martins: "Closing our offices for a day is inconsequential to the impact this playground will have on kids here for years to come" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 3/8).
NOTES: Toronto business exec Norm Freedman is leading a group of investors "interested in bringing a WNBA franchise" to Toronto as early as '09. Freedman: "The prospects are better than 50%. The WNBA is quite positive, and so am I, that a team in Toronto will do well. There's a large affluent female population and the promotional and marketing opportunities are there" (TORONTO SUN, 3/9)....The expansion MLS Earthquakes have signed an exclusive, multi-year ticketing services agreement with Tickets.com, making the club Tickets.com's first MLS client (Earthquakes).
