JOHN MCCAIN (R-AZ) on winning the Republican presidential nomination. Schilling indicated that he “may even hit the campaign trail.” Schilling: “If (McCain) asks and the schedule permits, I’d do whatever” (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/6)….Racecar driver LEILANI MUNTER was on Capitol Hill yesterday “telling members of Congress how to combat global warming.” Munter “hopes to convince racing bigwigs to develop more fuel-efficient engines and environment-friendly venues.” Munter: “We are not an eco-friendly sport” (WASHINGTON POST, 3/6).

 CHARITY STRIPE: Former MLB Commissioner FAY VINCENT donated $7M for undergraduate scholarships and the creation of a graduate fellowship at Williams College, his alma mater (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 3/5)….Nuggets G ALLEN IVERSON donated $35,000 for college scholarships during the CIAA tournament last week in Charlotte. The funds will pay for endowed scholarships that Iverson and his wife, TAWANNA, set up at Johnson C.
