How Swede It Is: Volvo Creates Limited Line Honoring Sox' Title
Published March 4, 2008
Volvo, the official car of the Red Sox, is introducing a "special edition of its popular C30 two-door hatchback" car to commemorate the Red Sox' World Series championship last season, according to Bill Griffith of the BOSTON GLOBE. The company will make just 107 of the cars available to "commemorate each of the team's victories" in '07. The first 106 will be sold through select New England Volvo dealers beginning March 12, with the last to be set aside for a fundraising raffle for the Red Sox Foundation. The cars will retail for $29,465, "about the same as a regular C30," and the "Passion Red" paint scheme for the cars is a "close match with Sox red." The cars also will have a "small Red Sox logo badge on each front fender, special floor mats embossed with a Sox 'B,' and a large transparent Sox logo decal in the rear window." Each car will come with a dash plaque authenticated by MLB and a certificate of authenticity signed by Volvo North America President & CEO Anne Belec and Red Sox President & CEO Larry Lucchino. Volvo Product Communications Manager Dan Johnston: "Safety can be fun with unique Scandinavian styling. ... This is a fun way to show our support of their achievements" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/4).
