Former Moves Employee Claims Mag Not Paying, Padding Numbers
Published March 3, 2008
Former Moves magazine employee Dirk DeSouza said that the publication, financed by Saints RB Reggie Bush, director Spike Lee, Pro Football HOFer Jim Brown and agent Mike Ornstein, has "failed to pay employees since December and has been padding circulation numbers," according to the N.Y. POST's Page Six. DeSouza, who said he was hired in October to "turn the company around," left the magazine on January 30 and is "preparing a lawsuit against the magazine's publisher," Scott Miller. DeSouza said that he took the job because Miller "assured him the free quarterly was in great shape and had an impressive circulation of 30,000," but that he quit after "learning the company was in dire straits." DeSouza: "Everything came to a head when I learned from co-workers that the circulation numbers weren't nearly what I was told." Miller: "This is a very serious matter." Moves spokesperson Alan Brown confirmed that DeSouza was an employee, but said, "He obviously has a grudge." Brown would not comment on DeSouza's other allegations (N.Y. POST, 3/1).
