FBR Open Sets Multiple Attendance Records For Event
Published February 5, 2008
The FBR Open in Scottsdale last week set "a slew of records," including attendance for Thursday (83,675), Friday (120,891), Saturday (170,802) and for the week (538,356), according to Nick Piecoro of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Although Saturday's crowd "fell short of [Tournament Chair Tim] Louis' optimistic hope of 200,000-plus, it was still the largest in the event's history." Meanwhile, Louis said that it "took until later in the week for fans to adjust to the changes in alcohol sales," which included requiring fans to get ID wristbands before getting in line to buy beer, limiting sales near the rowdy 16th hole and allowing fans to buy only two beers at a time. Louis said, "People were behaved. Maybe the banding thing had something to do with that." Incoming Tournament Chair John Felix said that crowd flow on the course is "one subject that will likely be visited." Felix: "We are concerned with how to move our crowds better" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 2/4).
