NFLPA Has March 7 Deadline To File Papers On Vick Bonus Case
Published February 19, 2008
The next round in the Michael Vick bonus case -- and the future of District Judge David Doty’s oversight of it -- will be the filing of legal documents by the NFLPA by March 7. NFL owners last week asked Doty to vacate his ruling that allowed Vick to keep $16.5M in bonuses. Earlier, the NFL Special Master Stephen Burbank ordered Vick to return that money. The NFL also wants Doty, who has ruled on labor matters for two decades in his Minneapolis court, to step away from league cases. The owners claimed that Doty is biased, citing comments he made to SportsBusiness Journal and meetings they allege he has had with NFLPA representatives. The NFL has until March 19 to respond to the next NFLPA filing. Afterwards, Doty will determine whether a hearing is necessary.
