D'Backs Replace Arizona Republic With Chase On New Scoreboard
Published February 19, 2008
The D'Backs this season at Chase Field will replace the Arizona Republic marquee with new signage reading "Chase Field" in capital letters, and "Home of the Diamondbacks" underneath with Chase Bank's logo above a new 46-foot-tall, 136-foot-wide, HD video scoreboard, according to Chris Casacchia of the BUSINESS JOURNAL OF PHOENIX. Sources valued the new Chase signage at "several hundred thousand dollars," and close to seven figures. Team officials said that the D'Backs and JPMorgan Chase & Co. "reworked their 30-year naming-rights deal to include the marquee after the Republic declined to renew its 10-year agreement." The Arizona Republic will "remain partners and advertise in other ways around the stadium." Meanwhile, the D'Backs this year are "spending $3.5[M] in capital improvements" to Chase Field, including adding Fatburger and Gordon Biersch Brewing Co. to the food lineup, adding more digital signs on the concourse levels, gutting and remodeling the Strike Zone Lounge and upgrading 20 suites (BUSINESS JOURNAL OF PHOENIX, 2/15 issue).
