Specter Gains Support From Leahy To Continue Spygate Probe

Specter (l) Says Leahy Has Offered Support For Inquiry Into Spygate Scandal

U.S. Sen. and Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Minority Member Arlen Specter (R-PA) said that committee Chair Patrick Leahy (D-VT) has "offered support" for an inquiry into the Patriots' videotaping practices and Specter "will continue his investigation," according to ESPN.com's Mike Fish. Specter said Leahy, who sat in on Specter's meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Wednesday, is "prepared to have the committee pay for people who travel and investigate." Specter: "I'm determined to go forward. You have answers and positions where (Goodell) is saying that with the destruction of tapes that, 'We did the right thing. We're absolutely sure.' Well, that is absurd. ... Goodell says things that don't make sense" (ESPN.com, 2/14). Specter added he was "more determined" to continue the investigation after meeting with Goodell. Specter: "There are red flags all over the field" (N.Y. TIMES, 2/15).

WALSH: Specter indicated that he is "talking to ... Matt Walsh, the former Patriots video director" about the team's taping practices. Specter: "Walsh is the guy who supposedly taped the walk-through [prior to Super Bowl XXXVI]. The picture's starting to fit together. I've been talking to Walsh's lawyer." Specter said Walsh's attorney noted his client was being investigated "by a guy named Dick Farley, who is an NFL security guy and a former FBI agent." Specter: "I asked Goodell about it and he said Farley does work for NFL security but that he didn't know anything about it" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 2/15).
