Documentary Features H.S. Basketball Player Stephenson
Published February 13, 2008
Lincoln High School (New York) boys basketball junior G Lance Stephenson Jr. is featured in a real-time Web documentary entitled “Born Ready,” according to Kevin Armstrong of SI.com. Last month, the documentary was released on BornReady.tv, packaged as an “episodic real-time look at Stephenson” on and off the court. Eleven chapters have already been released and a new 3-5 minute segment debuts each Tuesday. The project's co-creators, Paul Rivera and Justin Leonard, began filming Stephenson two years ago, and are “not permitted to film during school hours.” Armstrong wrote the overall product offers a “humorous take rather than one spotlighting any hubris.” Stephenson: “It’s showing me in a different light.” However, a college coach “wondered whether his recruitment would come with a record button attached.” The coach: “I just want to watch the recruiting episodes. How much are the cameras going to film when things heat up? I bet some coaches will be more than a little camera shy” (SI.com, 2/11).
