Green Giant: Rich Gotham Discusses Business Side Of Celtics
Published February 13, 2008
Celtics President Rich Gotham is featured in a Q&A with BIZOFBASKETBALL.com’s Maury Brown. Gotham said the team has launched a new lifestyle show called “Celtics Now” and is “looking at a couple weekly show-type opportunities.” Gotham: “We’re looking ... to get our game telecasts broadcast to a wider audience. We're looking at digital rights, at the local level, to see what opportunities might exist for streaming media, streaming video, video on demand.” When asked if there is any consideration by the club to increasing the cost of courtside seats, Gotham said, “We have less room around courtside than a lot of the other arenas do. We are currently looking at some reconfiguration plans; some projects that we'll implement during the off-season, which will free up quite a few more courtside seats for us." Gotham said of the Celtics courting presenting sponsors for the team’s season and postseason, “We’ve started conversations with three or four different companies, with the starting point being season presenting sponsorship, which has turned into sizable deals, but not season sponsorship deals.” Gotham also said that the team has “just about doubled” its season-ticket base this season and with the Super Bowl over, there are “more people looking to the Celtics, and the ticket is getting tougher and tougher to purchase.” When asked about the team taking reservations for playoff tickets through TicketReserve.com, Gotham said, "If you talk to the TicketReserve folks, they will tell you that we’ve been their single-biggest on sale" (BIZOFBASKETBALL.com, 2/12).
