Out With The Old: Luukko Decides Against Sixers Game In Spectrum
Published February 12, 2008
Comcast-Spectacor President & COO Peter Luukko has decided against moving the March 22 Nets-76ers game from the Wachovia Center to the Wachovia Spectrum, as "sheer logistics and overall planning got in the way," according to Phil Jasner of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. Luukko said, "Logistically, it didn't make a lot of sense. Maybe we'll do it next year. ... The league liked it as a marketing idea, and I don't know that any other team could even have this opportunity." However, Luukko added, "To move a game there involves making plans for moving season ticket-holders and a lot of things necessary in preparing the building. It doesn't make a lot of sense to try and do it now." Luukko "made it clear that a retro game in the Spectrum would be unrelated to the possible demolition" of the arena for the new Philly Live sports and entertainment complex (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 2/12).
