MLS Dynamo Hosting New Preseason Tournament In San Antonio
Published January 30, 2008
The MLS Dynamo will host the Texas Pro Soccer Festival on March 3-9 outside San Antonio, a round-robin training tournament that will include DC United, Toronto FC and Chivas USA, according to Terrence Thomas of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. The club previously played preseason games in South America, but medical and traveling issues "made such ventures more hassle than benefit." Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear said of the tournament: "It's probably the premier preseason tournament in [MLS]." San Antonio Metropolitan Youth Soccer Institute President Ed Sakiewicz said that the competition, which will feature a doubleheader format on three game days, could become "an annual event." The Dynamo plan to use the tournament as "its final tune-up" before the CONCACAF Champions Cup in Guatemala (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 1/30).
GALAXY: The Galaxy, for their '08 Asia Tour presented by Herbalife, will play FC Seoul on March 1 at Seoul World Cup Stadium in South Korea, and will face China All-Star Union on March 5 at Shanghai Stadium in China (Galaxy).
