State Expected To Partially Fund MLS Stadium Near Philly
Published January 30, 2008
The state of Pennsylvania is “poised to announce an agreement to kick in $45[M] to partially fund construction” of an MLS stadium in Chester, according to Rose & SanFilippo of the DELAWARE COUNTY TIMES. A “formal announcement of a letter of intent" from the state is scheduled for tomorrow. State talks with a private investment group to begin construction this year on the $115M stadium have been “ongoing for months, and have been closely monitored by MLS officials.” Delaware Co. and the city of Chester have committed a combined $30M for the stadium, with the county paying about $24M and the city about $6M. The $45M now expected to come from the state would leave $80M to "come from the investors" for the total $155M price tag, which includes a $30M expansion fee and $10M for operating costs. Buccini/Pollin Group, part of the potential investment group, is “expected to use the stadium deal to spur an additional $400[M] development of residential, entertainment and commercial property next-door” to the facility (DELAWARE COUNTY TIMES, 1/30).
ST. LOUIS: The Collinsville (IL) City Council voted 4-1 Monday to approve a tax increment financing plan to help fund a mixed-use development project that would include a 18,500-seat stadium for an expansion MLS team in St. Louis (St. Louis Soccer United).
