Quint Events To Sell Derby, Oaks Entertainment Packages

Quint Events Inks Deal With Churchill Downs To
Offer Kentucky Derby And Oaks Packages
Atlanta-based Quint Events under a three-year deal with Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI) will offer entertainment packages which, "depending on the level, include tickets, transportation and accommodations" to the Kentucky Derby and Oaks, according to Gregory Hall of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. Quint Events, which works with the NFL on the Super Bowl, "does not sell tickets independent of the packages," unlike TicketCity.com, which CDI partnered with in '06. Quint is offering six different tiers of packages, with the cheapest advertised on the company's Web site listed at $1,649 for the Kentucky Derby and Oaks and the most expensive priced at $11,399. CDI VP/Guest Services Tom Schneider said that the Kentucky Derby tickets themselves are "not marked up within the packages." Schneider: "One of the key factors for this thing in our view, and Quint as well, is we wanted to create something for everybody. So it's not just about the multimillionaire being able to get a high-end turnkey experience. It's about folks that can't afford that type of dollar." Churchill's efforts to sell packages through TicketCity two years ago "drew criticism because of the track's policy against ticket scalping," which is prohibited by Kentucky state law. This year, CDI also "plans to sell an undisclosed number of tickets in short-term, [PSL] deals that can guarantee someone the chance to buy tickets for up to two years." CDI Dir of Corporate Communications Julie Koenig Loignon said that the newest license sales "are expected to generate $300,000" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 1/19).
