Corvette To Race On E85, Joins Le Mans Series' Green Initiative

Corvette To Use E85 Fuel In This Year's American Le Mans Series

Corvette Racing will use "a blend of 85% ethanol (E85) and 15% gasoline" in its two racecars in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) this year, according to Mike Brudenell of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. The move follows ALMS President & CEO Scott Atherton announcing the "Green Racing Challenge" yesterday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The effort, an alignment involving ALMS, the U.S. EPA, U.S. Department of Energy and SAE International, features "the use of alternative fuels and other related innovations in the series, starting at the Twelve Hours of Sebring endurance race" in Florida on March 15. Mazda North America, Acura and Porsche Cars North America are among other manufacturers to join the initiative. ALMS cars include Audis, Porsches, Ferraris, Aston Martins and Corvettes (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 1/16). All race cars in the series "compete on alternative fuels" (USA TODAY, 1/16).
