C'Mon Ride The (D) Train: Tigers Trade Creates Demand For Tickets

Tigers Sell Almost $1.3M In Season Tickets In
Two Days After Trading For Cabrera (l) And Willis
The Tigers sold over $600,000 worth of season tickets Wednesday and $680,000 Thursday following the acquisition of P Dontrelle Willis and 3B Miguel Cabrera from the Marlins on Tuesday, according to Lynn Henning of the DETROIT NEWS. Tigers VP/Marketing & Ticket Sales Bob Raymond said the team’s previous best single-day season-ticket sales was $250,000 on the day after C Ivan Rodriguez signed in ’04. The Tigers also “have seen a boost in inquiries about hospitality suites.” The team in ’07 played to 92% capacity at Comerica Park and “could conceivably approach a season sellout once single-game tickets go on sale March 1.” Tigers Owner Mike Ilitch in September said that he “would be open to creative ways of expanding Comerica Park’s occupancy.” However, Tigers President, CEO & GM Dave Dombrowski said that “any expansion plans expedited by this week’s trade and the ticket demand it has created could not be complete before Opening Day” (DETROIT NEWS, 12/7).
