Univ. Of Maryland Supporter Donates $8M To Athletic Department
Published December 4, 2007
Baltimore-based Acton Mobile Industries Chair & CEO Barry Gossett has donated $10M to the Univ. of Maryland (UM), of which $8M "has been earmarked for use by the athletic department," according to Marc Craig of the WASHINGTON POST. The money, given in the form of a charitable trust, is "the largest private donation in the history" of UM athletics, and $4.5M of it "will be used to upgrade athletic facilities, namely the Varsity Team House" used by UM's soccer and lacrosse teams. Additionally, $500,000 will go toward renovations at the Gossett Football Team House, previously named in the honor of Gossett and his wife. The gift establishes $1[M] endowments for the AD, the football coach and the men's basketball coach (WASHINGTON POST, 12/4).
