Parrish, Vincent Could Vie To Replace NFLPA Exec Dir Upshaw
Published November 26, 2007
Former NFLPA VP Bernie Parrish “wants to replace [NFLPA Exec Dir Gene Upshaw] when his term expires” in ’09, according to William Rhoden of the N.Y. TIMES. Parrish: "I’m thinking of running against Mr. Upshaw. We’ve looked at the rules, and all you need is three player reps to endorse you as a candidate, and you’re a candidate.” Rhoden notes Parrish has been “in the middle and the outside of the fight for better benefits for retired players.” NFLPA President Troy Vincent is “considered a favorite to replace Upshaw,” and Rhoden writes, “I’d like to see a series of made-for-TV debates among Upshaw, Parrish and Vincent, complete with a high-profile moderator and a panel made up of sports journalists.” Parrish's platform is outlined in Rhoden's piece (N.Y. TIMES, 11/26).
